Three in ten London households rent privately, against about one in five across England, according to the 2021 Census figures in Hammersmith and Fulham's borough profile. In that borough it is 37%, and three quarters of homes are flats or maisonettes. That matters for bed bugs in two ways.
First, the bill. If you rent, the landlord may be the one who has to arrange and pay for treatment, so report it to them or the agent in writing before booking anything yourself.
Second, the walls. In a converted house or a block, bugs can move between flats through gaps around pipes and wiring. A London exterminator should ask about the flats next door and above, and a managing agent may want them checked too.
From Southwark Council's bed bug preparation plan. Your exterminator will give its own list; follow that.

Ask for a free quoteAs a guide, £300 to £650 for a spray programme in a one-bed flat and £350 to £850 for two bedrooms. Heat treatment runs from about £550. These are national price-guide figures with Fantastic Services' 10 to 20% London uplift applied, not quotes.
Some do. Hammersmith and Fulham lists £271.20 for two visits covering two bedrooms, and Croydon treats bed bugs and shows the price when you book. Others have no service or treat only council tenants, so check your own borough's site.
Tell your landlord or letting agent in writing first. Whether they pay depends on when and how the bed bugs arrived, and in a block the managing agent may want other flats checked at the same time.
Three short steps: where, what and who. The more you tell us now, the better the exterminator can plan the first visit.
